New Reviews by You!
Since we put our review contest on hold this fall, we have been lacking in the review department around here. Luckily, I found two new reviews from teens on some very good reads! Check out either of the books from the Cedar Rapids Public Library, and submit your own reviews of things you read here!
Divergent by Veronica Roth
This book was just fabulous. I would’ve read it straight through, but I fell asleep. Even when I stopped reading, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I felt almost like I was Tris, the main character, and I was stuck in her dangerous world. You can never see what’s coming and usually the next twist just makes it impossible to put the book down. I’ll be obsessed with this book until the second one is published. – S.S.
*Note: Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, comes out in May 2012, so there is plenty of time to check this book out at the library!
Twelve Long Months by Brian Malloy
When I first started to read the book Twelve Long Months I thought it was going to be the worst book that I would ever read. As I started reading the book it became really good. I think if I could i would definitely try to have more teens read it because it is just a really good book. The book was about an eighteen year old girl. She liked this boy and the boy knew she liked him but he didn’t like her like that. Then when she went to New York and he came there and started to go to college. She ends up finding out a secret about the guy. Read more to find out what happens in this romantic drama! -S.C.
NaNoWriMo Starts Today!
What is NaNoWriMo, you ask? It stands for National Novel Writing Month and it means that you could be an author by the end of November. The goal is to write a 50,000 word or 175 page novel by November 30th at midnight. If you love to write, this is an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself to finish a book! Think 50,000 is waaay too much on top of all your homework, job, practices, and time spent at the library? The Young Writer’s Program allows you to set your own word count here and decide how much you’d like to write.
If you’d like company while you write, you can stop by the Cedar Rapids Public Library at Westdale Mall on Wednesday nights from 5:30-8:30 to Come Write In and write with fellow area writers. Westdale not your cup of tea? The Cedar Rapids area has plenty of other places, dates, and times to Come Write In, so check them out here and get writing!
